Congregation Tikkun Olam

Congregation Tikkun Olam embraces Jewish heritage, culture and religious philosophy. Our congregants are not divided by differences, but bonded by shared values, individual freedom and the quest for spirituality.”

Congregation Tikkun Olam, McHenry County’s only Reform Jewish congregation, was founded in 1996. We are fully inclusive and welcome interfaith families and unaffiliated Jews in the area, whether or not they were born Jewish.

We respect religious diversity and, as the translation of our name implies, our mission is “to Repair the World” by providing a community of friendship to all, while performing acts of social justice and doing tzedakah.

CTO functions as a havurah without our own building, full-time rabbi, or staff. We encourage the active participation of all by opening their homes to an occasional Friday night Shabbat or Saturday evening Havdalah service, sharing their ideas, organizing programming enhancements like holiday parties, potluck or restaurant dinners, book discussions, service projects, or anything else that would be of interest to others. Notification of all activities is done by e-mail.

It has always been our policy that one should not have to pay to pray – we charge no membership or other fees and rely on the generosity of our congregants for donations if and when the need arises.

If you have any questions or wish to be added to our e-mail list for updated information, just let us know!
